UEFA Nations League 2022/23 – Hungary vs England, match preview, predicted lineups

Hun vs Eng
Match no. 22 of Nations League 2022/23 between Hungary and England takes place today

England play Hungary in UEFA Nations League 2022/23 opener for both teams as the tournament moves ahead. England come into this game as the favourites.

Kick-off : 6:00 PM (Local)

Venue : puss Arena Park, Budapest

England are in a tough Nations League group and to win it from there won’t be easy. They have the like of Germany and Italy as well in their group apart from Hungary in League A Group 3. They will have to play their brand of football.

The Three Lions last played a game in March of this year, beating African giants Ivory Coast 3-0 in London. They have already made it to the World Cup finals this year in Qatar 2022.

Boss Gareth Southgate might use a 4-3-3 system in which they will have to defend solidly and attack enough to win games. England are undefeated in the last 9 games that they have played so far.

On the other hand, Hungary know they are in a very tough group with three former world champions. They have no option but give their all to have any chances.

The Magyars last played a game in March, an international friendly against Northern Ireland which they won 1-0 courtesy Roland Sallai. Hungary have failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup later this year in Qatar after dismal showing in a not so tough group.

Boss Marco Rossi will likely use a 3-4-2-1 system in which they have to defend well and hit on the counter.

Team news and possible lineups

Ben White is injured and hence won’t be available for England ahead of the Hungary game. Another notable absentee will be Phil Foden who is COVID-positive. While Raheem Sterling is a doubt.

As for The Magyars, Zalan Vancsa is available and likely play.

England XI : Pickford, James, Stones, Maguire, Trippier, Rice, Bellingham, Saka, Mount, Grealish, Kane.

Hungary XI : Gulacsi, A. Szalai, Orban, Lang, Nego, A. Nagy, Schafer, S. Nagy, Sallai, Szoboszalai, Adam Szalai.

Prediction

England start as favourites and they might win 3-0.
