U-19 World Cup: India beat New Zealand and set up Quarter-Final clash with Australia
India overcame a tough kiwi challenge in the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup to win the group and set up a quarter-final date with Australia on January 28.
The rising star Ravi Bishnoi again starred with the bowl as he restricted the New Zealand batsmen. India won by 44 runs in the end with the DLS method.
With India being put into bat, the openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyaansh Saxena gave a century opening stand. But rain played spoil sport as India were 115/0 (23). The match was reduced to 23-overs per-side.
Knowing the target of 193 in 23-overs, the kiwi batters batted with real quality as they scored 50 runs in five overs.
But Atharva Ankolekar and Ravi Bishnoi showed their class bowling wicket-to-wicket. They picked up seven kiwi wickets between them.
For New Zealand Rhys Marieu was the top scorer with 42 (31). India’s wicket-keeper Dhruv Jurel was fantastic behind the stumps.
Ravi Bishnoi has now 10 wickets from three group league games.
“I want to be like Shane Warne as every aspiring leg-spinner,” Bishnoi later said.
Skipper Priyam Garg would have been pleased with his side’s efforts so far as they now play Australia in the Super League quarter-final at Potchfestroom on Jan 28.
