Real Madrid edge United to win the Super Cup
This Real Madrid team is one of the greatest of all times and it showed why. They now have won the Super Cup twice in a row.
Real showed United what it takes to rule Europe and gave them a footballing lesson. The UEFA Super Cup trophy is one which is still not part of Jose Mourinho’s collection. But he will take heart from the fact that the best team in Europe is against whom they were defeated.
Real Madrid started this game with real intent as they kept more possession in the first half and looked more threatening. Their efforts came to fruition when Casemiro put the ball into the net from Carvajal’s cross in the 24h minute.
In the heat of the Macedonian evening their were a couple of cooling breaks throughout the match. United though never looked like scoring albeit a few chances here and there.
At the break it was Real with the advantage and the game was going away from Man United. Soon we were back in action for the 2nd half, and it was not much into the half as Isco scored again. This really would have dented the hopes of a United comeback. By the way Isco had run through 3 United defenders and netted the ball.
Their were some hopes restored though for Manchester United when Lukaku got a goal back in the 62nd minute. Nemanja Matic hit the ball straight to Navas who blocked the shot but couldn’t hold on to the ball and Lukaku took advantage.
Cristiano Ronaldo, who later came as a substitute into this match couldn’t score any more goals for Real Madrid. And it looked all over for United as the time passed and them struggling to score.
Their were 7 minutes added after the 90 as for the loss of time earlier. Marouane Fellaini was injured in the second half and his head was bandaged and their was some time lost in this game. But all the time given was not enough for United to take the game into extra time.
As it was, it finished with 2-1 in favor of Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane and his man lifted another trophy and began the new season on a high. For United, they can still gain a few trophies this season as its just the start.
