Messi’s double helps Barcelona eliminate Chelsea in the Champions League

Barcelona defeated Chelsea 3-0 in the Champions League yesterday
Barcelona reached the quarter-finals of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League after defeating Chelsea 3-0 yesterday. They advanced ahead 4-1 on aggregate.

It was a disappointing night in Chelsea football club’s history as their dreams of winning the Champions League this season ended. They will now focus domestically as FA Cup battle resumes on Sunday.

After a 1-1 draw back in February in the first leg against Barca, their were slight expectations of progression but it all came to a crashing end. Barcelona won the second leg in one sided fashion as Lionel Messi scored his 99th and 100th goals in the Champions League.

The Argentinian maestro opened the scoring in just the 3rd minute as Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois failed to stop the ball going through his legs.

Soon after Ousmane Dembele put the game and the tie beyond Chelsea’s reach as he scored again in the 20th minute with an assist from the man himself, Leo Messi.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte was furious and all of the fans must have been extremely disappointed as they had conceded so easily and so early. They were left to chase the game from their on till the end.

Although the Blues started second half more attacking and with more possession, better then the first half in which they were deprived possession of the ball. But nothing significant happened for them.

Messi scored again in the 63rd minute to end Chelsea’s run as again he put the ball through the legs of Courtois, who had an odd game.

Two times Chelsea hit the woodwork which could have been a couple of goals as Marcos Alonso and Antonio Rudiger were unlucky.

But it was Barca’s night as they marched on into the quarter-finals yet again and were certainly better then Chelsea on the night.
