Liverpool eye victory against Roma in Champions League 2017/18 semi-final 1st leg
Liverpool are set to play AS Roma on Tuesday night in the 2017/18 Champions League semi-final first leg at home. The Reds go into this game as the favorites.
Kick-off : 7:45 PM (Local)
Venue : Anfield, Liverpool
Liverpool reached this stage of the Champions League after outclassing Manchester City over two legs. They won both the legs and won 5-1 on aggregate with PFA Player of the Year – Mohamed Salah scoring in both games.
Although Liverpool are only three games away from European glory they should not be complacent and take things lightly against Roma in the semi’s as they are a very good side who overcame giants Barcelona in the quarter-finals.
On the other hand, Roma did the unthinkable and knocked Barcelona out in the quarter-final stage of this season’s Champions League. They won 3-0 at home and progressed on away goals despite loosing the first leg 1-4. So they will be pretty much high on confidence and will look to upset Liverpool next.
So far Liverpool and Roma have played each other 5 times. Out of that the Reds have won twice while Giallorossi have won once, Two other games have been a draw.
Team news and possible line-ups
Rick Karsdorp and Gregoire Defrel will both be not available for Roma for the Tuesday night game as due to injury. While Diego Perotti is available and will likely play.
As for Liverpool, Adam Lallana, Joel Matip and Emre Can will all be not available as due to injury.
Roma XI : Alisson, Fazio, Manolas, J. Jesus, Florenzi, Strootman, De Rossi, Nainggolan, Kolarov, Schick, Dzeko.
Liverpool XI : Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Prediction
I expect Liverpool to win the first leg as they have the home advantage. I think it will finish 2-1.
