Les Bleus crowned world champions again after 20 years
France yesterday defeated Croatia 4-2 in the 2018 FIFA World Cup final to lift their 2nd world cup in history. The last time the French won the world cup was in 1998. It is now 20 years and they have another one.
It was disappointing for Croatia as they lost a great opportunity to become world champions and achieve something unique and become immortals.
But nonetheless it was what it is and Croatia trailed from the very start through an own goal. Mario Mandzukic was the culprit as he headed into his own net in the 18th minute.
The luck seemed to be in the favor of the French as the game moved further with them leading. Ivan Perisic though seemed to have other thoughts as he equalized in the 28th minute with his powerful left foot.
Game was in balance as we approached half-time until a Croatian outfield player touched the ball with his hand inside the box and France were awarded penalty. Antoine Griezmann converted the penalty to restore the French lead as we went into the break.
After the break it was all about how and when will Croatia equalize again to get back into the already drifting game or will it be France who will run away with it.
Exactly reverse happened when in the space of six minutes France killed the game scoring two goals with the help of their star men, Paul Pogba first and the star for the future Kylian Mbappe next.
Croatia only scored a consolation goal next as the match always seemed to be over for them from there in the 69th minute through Mandzukic when Lloris made a mistake.
As we approached the 90 minutes to be over little action was their as France lifted the world cup. The celebrations were wild and the whole world now knew the winner of this year’s FIFA World Cup.
France will celebrate it for the whole of their lives and it’s congratulations to them as they well played and also to Croatia who themselves were a team of a different class.
