Giroud’s goal helps Chelsea defeat Liverpool
Chelsea were brilliant yesterday in the Premier League as they defeated Liverpool at home. This is Liverpool’s second successive defeat across all competitions.
Olivier Giroud was the solo goal scorer of the game. His goal in the 32nd minute proved to be decisive for the Blues.
The win has now helped Chelsea’s chances to get a top four finish and qualify for next season’s Champions League. As for Liverpool they probably will need a win in their last league game.
At the moment Chelsea are currently fifth with 69 points after 36 games while Liverpool are third with 72 points after 37 games. In between them are Spurs with 71 points after 36 games.
Liverpool have the big Champions League final in Kiev coming up against Real Madrid and must have gained something from such a big game just before that.
Chelsea themselves have a big FA Cup final against Manchester United coming up. So a big game win would certainly have helped them mentally.
The game was played with both teams fielding their strongest elevens. Their was a certain game plan that both teams were executing but it was Chelsea’s that worked.
Chelsea were obviously looking to defend well and prevent Salah from scoring. At the same time they looked out for opportunities to score.
Liverpool with their more attacking prowess and the way they have played this season were looking to attack and kept more possession.
Marcos Alonso had one brilliant opportunity to score a goal when he struck sweetly but it didn’t went into goal.
Eden Hazard was also brilliant for the Blues as was Sadio Mane for the Reds.
Overall it was a close game as their weren’t many goals in it but the best team on the night won. Chelsea fans will certainly be happy.
