Germany eye qualification to next stage against Cameroon
Germany and Cameroon play each other in the Confederations Cup on Sunday at Sochi. Germany will be looking to win handsomely in order to top Group B.
The Indomitable Lions come into this game needing 3 points to push for a place into the semis. While the Germans only need a point to reach the semis.
The Cameroonians have been depending on a solid defense for all of their success in the past 12 months. But they lack firepower upfront and against a quality opposition like Germany, they will struggle to score.
The Germans on the other hand though are not that experienced but a talented unit. They would have been content to only concede one goal against a high quality Chile side.
Borussia Monchengladbach forward Lars Stindl have been performing brilliantly for Germany so far in this tournament. He has scored in two successive games in this Confederations Cup. Again he will eyeing to get on the scoresheet against The Indomitable Lions.
Cameroon have not been performing well since winning the African Cup of Nations earlier this year. They’ve netted just three times in their last five internationals, loosing 3 of those games. They have a big problem in terms of scoring goals which was visible even in their AFCON campaign.
The Germans are expected to win against Cameroon. The Indomitable Lions front line doesn’t look like striking any fear into the German defense.
In their last competitive meeting, the Germans won comfortably 2-0 at the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Both the teams also played before the 2014 world cup finals in a friendly which ended 2-2.
Germany will likely rotate their side and we might see Shkodran Mustafi being rested. Niklas Sule and Julian Brandt may be recalled into the team.
Cameroon should play their strongest team in order to force an unlikely win. Their manager must be pondering on how can they score goals against this German side.
Prediction
Germany should win 1-0 against The Indomitable Lions. But it should be a good competitive game. African football has come very far.
