France dash Argentinian hopes of winning 2018 FIFA World Cup
France yesterday defeated Argentina 4-3 in a thriller as they qualified for the Quarter-Finals in style. Kylian Mbappe was the hero of the game with his two excellent goals.
France looked attacking from the start as Argentine defense looked incapable of coping with Kylian Mbappe’s pace. He won France their first penalty of the game to which Antoine Griezmann scored and made it 1-0.
Argentina chased the game from their as the French started dictating the terms. As we neared half time though Angel Di Maria scored a wonder goal from range to make it 1-1.
At half time it was difficult to predict the outcome of this match. Although Mercado differentiated when he scored the second goal for Argentina in 48th minute through a deflection from Lionel Messi’s shot.
It seemed the French are in for a tough game as they now chased. Benjamin Pavard had other thoughts though as he scored the French equalizer in the 57th minute of the game, a goal almost as good as the Di Maria one.
Kylian Mbappe, the hero of the game scored two goals next in quick succession to kill the game for Messi and Argentina.
Tasked with a huge ask of scoring at least a couple of goals Argentina’s dream seemed to near it’s end as the French dominated. The times would have been nervous for Messi who was not having a good game.
Argentina scored only a consolation goal in the end through Messi’s pass which Aguero converted into a goal. France won the match and progressed as Argentinian hearts were broken.
Sad end for Messi and his fans as they will have to wait for another four years to see maybe Messi lift the world cup for the very first time. France will play Uruguay next in the Quarter-Finals next who eliminated Portugal and Ronaldo.
