England register convincing win over India to lift the Royal London One-Day Series
England thrashed India yesterday in the third and final ODI of the three match series and inflicted an eight wicket win as India performed below par. Courtesy of the win, England won the closely fought ODI series 2-1.
Eoin Morgan won the all important toss and elected to bowl first as the decision proved correct in the end. India struggled from the very start.
It was expected that either of India’s top three make a big hundred and get India’s total to maybe 300+ but Rohit got out very early to a brilliant David Willey.
India than never looked like posting a big total as England bowled disciplined line and lengths and kept the Indian batsman in check. Soon Shikhar got run out as captain Virat consolidated.
No one scored a fifty in the Indian innings except Virat Kohli and as a result India struggled and somehow crossed 250. It was some small small efforts from Dhoni, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shardul Thakur towards the end that Indian total reached some respect.
Set a relatively small total, England literally had no scoreboard pressure and played freely from the start. They hammered India in the powerplay so much so that Bhuvi and Shardul and even Hardik took heavy pounding. They were 78/2 after 10 overs.
After that it was all captain Eoin Morgan and maestro Joe Root show as they guided England to an easy and famous 8 wicket win over giants India. This loss ended India’s good run of continuous ODI series wins and extended England’s.
England played Kuldeep and Chahal really well and gave them zero wickets. It is a learning lesson for the Indians. Adil Rashid was the man of the match for his brilliant 3/49 (10). Joe Root was the man of the series.
Now the teams have some rest before they begin the five test series starting August 1, which should be an interesting series.
