Liverpool eye final berth as they take on Roma away in 2017/18 Champions League semi-final 2nd leg
Liverpool are set to play Roma away in the 2017/18 Champions League semi-final 2nd leg on Wednesday night. Liverpool once again go into this game as the favorites.
Kick-off : 8:45 PM (Local)
Venue : Stadio Olimpico, Rome
Liverpool won handsomely against Roma just eight days ago in the first leg as Mohamed Salah stole the show then at Anfield with two beautiful goals and two assists. But it will be the two goals that the Italian side scored is what will hurt Klopp’s side as it has opened a slight door for a Roma comeback.
Liverpool will need just a goalless draw to safely reach the final. But they will need to be careful of a dangerous Roma side at home who will attack from the outset.
On the other hand, Giallorossi will have to net at least three times and not concede to go through. It will be a tough ask but they have done similar kind of a stuff against Barcelona in the quarter-finals and will need to believe.
The Reds are ahead on the head to head against Roma and lead 3-1. Both clubs have played two drawn games against each other.
Team news and possible line-ups
Rick Karsdorp and Gregoire Defrel will both be not available for Roma for the midweek game as due to injury. Other than that Roma have a fully fit squad to choose from.
As for Liverpool, Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson are both available and will likely play Wednesday’s semi-final. While Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Emre Can remains sidelined.
Roma XI : Alisson, Fazio, Manolas, J. Jesus, Florenzi, Strootman, De Rossi, Nainggolan, Kolarov, Schick, Dzeko.
Liverpool XI : Karius, Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson, Milner, Henderson, Wijnaldum, Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Prediction
It should be a close game but in the end I expect Liverpool to reach the Champions League final. The game might end 2-1 in favor of Roma.
