Arsenal eye victory against Atletico Madrid in Europa League 2017/18 semi-final first leg
Arsenal are set to play Atletico Madrid on Thursday night in the 2017/18 Europa League semi-final first leg at home. Both teams will be looking for a win.
Kick-off : 8:05 PM (Local)
Venue : Emirates Stadium, London
Arsenal reached to this stage by overcoming CSKA Moscow in the quarter-finals. Arsenal progressed 6-3 on aggregate with the Gunners winning the first leg while drawing the second. Aaron Ramsey scored in both the legs of the tie.
With Arsene Wenger leaving Arsenal at the end of the current season, the players would definitely look to give their best to win a European trophy for him. But they know that Atletico Madrid are in their way and will have to be at their best to overcome one of the best teams in Spain.
On the other hand, Atletico Madrid this season’s Europa League semi’s after overcoming a tough Sporting side. They progressed to 2-1 on aggregate, winning the home leg while loosing the away one.
Atleti have done well domestically as they are 2nd in La Liga but they will be definitely eyeing European success. But they have one of the world’s best clubs in Arsenal in their way and Atletico will have to give their all.
Team news and possible line-ups
Juanfran is doubtful for Atletico Madrid for the midweek game. While Diego Costa remains sidelined.
As for Arsenal, Mohamed Elneny will be unavailable for Thursday’s semi-final as due to injury. Whereas Danny Welbeck is available and will likely play.
